Dr Naomi Hartley is a certified practicing speech pathologist consulting in speech, language, voice, literacy, and swallowing for adults and children. Since obtaining her initial qualifications in Speech Pathology from The University of Queensland (2000), Naomi has combined clinical practice with research and university teaching in Australia and The United States of America. She values an evidence-based approach to management, aiming to be a trusted source of information for communication and swallowing function for individuals and the community. Particular areas of clinical interest include leveraging neuroplasticity for those living with neurological changes, and helping clients reap the rewards of improved communication skills in educational, social, and personal roles.
Naomi is a certified provider of speech treatment for people living with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions - the Lee-Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT-LOUD) Program and the SPEAK OUT! Therapy Program. These programs exploit the latest research on motor learning principles and neuroplasticity to help individuals find and maintain their best voice and live with fewer restrictions.
Naomi has published in academic journals and presented at National and International conferences in the areas of: respiratory function and speech production following cervical spinal cord injury, optimising speech for ventilator-assisted individuals, the integration of simulated learning environments into clinical education, clinical practice in vocal health (in particular hydration), chronic cough, paradoxical vocal fold motion, epidemiology of vocal health in young adults, and the practice patterns of speech pathologists in paediatric vocal health.
Naomi is a communicator at heart, it is why she chose speech pathology all those years ago. She values connection with each client and collaborating with other professionals to provide the best possible holistic care.
